Hi! My name is Karen and I am a Middle School Computer and Reading teacher. I am also certified in Special Education. I have been teaching in some capacity for 23 years, and I have been a certified teacher for 17 years. I began by teaching children and adults with autism and other behavioral disorders in a private school situation. I eventually moved into the public schools teaching a self-contained special education class for two years. I moved to a new state and was once again teaching in a private school, but this it was for children with learning disabilities. Again a move to the public schools came up and I was hired as the computer teacher. As the need for more reading classes emerged at my school, I realized that I needed to expand what classes I could teach, so I went back to school and took the necessary classes to add a Reading Endorsement to my certificate. It was a good move because the new reading classes caused a decrease in electives classes. So now I teach half a schedule of Computers and half a schedule of Reading. I really feel that I have the best of both worlds getting to teach two things that I love.
